Practice Launch Spotlight: Dr. David (Mythbreaker) Jenkins
My relationship with Dr. David Jenkins started when he saw a picture of me in an over embellished meme about corporate dentistry. Something about this meme spoke to Dr. Jenkins and led to him reaching out to me to make a change. David enrolled in the Practice Launch CE with me, took the course, became a Practice Launch CE student, and started down a new and exciting journey. This picture was that meme by the way –>
David was a dentist who felt as if he was toiling away in corporate dentistry. Corporate dentistry is fine for some, but for others it does simply not align with the vision. Today I am happy to see David’s vision materialize.
Today Dr. David Jenkins is somebody I personally consider a hero:
Former High School Football Star.
He is the first doctor in his family.
Inspirational figure in the community who can be seen giving away free turkeys on Thanksgiving and free backpacks to kids when school starts.
And also the dentist who coined the phrase ‘saturation is a myth’
One of my favorite parts of getting to know Dr. Jenkins as a CE student is his perspective on ‘myth-breaking.’ In the interview above you’ll hear this discussed at length.
There are many myths of dentistry and myths pertaining to our careers that we are peddled as young dentists and as dental students.
For some reason – these myths almost always seem to be negative. They tell us what we can’t accomplish with our careers and how long we have to wait to make our goals happen.
Whether it’s coming from a dental school faculty or someone in a Facebook Dental Group.
Many of the beliefs in these sets of myths hold us back from success.
“Saturation is a myth” is just one of many that David and I get into above in our conversation.
Dr. Jenkins was able to get the doors open to his practice for about $188,000.
I thought it cost $500,000 or more to open a start-up practice. MYTH.
Oh yeah, the place is also beautiful (see the video tour) and has new Henry Schein chairs.
Cheap practices, look cheap? MYTH.
It wasn’t long before he was seeing over 100 new patients flow into the practice on a typical month. With the system, the schedule was packed from Day 1. I thought it took a long time to build up a patient client base? MYTH.
In fact, the practice generated more profit the FIRST WEEK of business, than the salary he was making as a corporate dentist.
I’m proud to say what is not a myth, is Dr. David Jenkins himself. He is the real deal. David I look forward to the pleasure of having you as a colleague for years to come.
Kaizen, get a little bit better, every day
