Member Spotlight: Dr. Darren Anderson
Opening a Dental Practice in Scottsdale, AZ for only $50,000
“There’s a Difference Between Knowing the Path, and Walking The Path.” – Morpheus from The Matrix
I have long championed not breaking the bank to open a start-up. Naysayers in the room often shout that it just isn’t possible to open a beautiful looking start up on a budget. I am specifically speaking of spending less than $100,000 from A to Z to get the doors open. Dr. Anderson is a member of the Practice Biopsy Group who demonstrates that a Start-Up Practice can be accomplished that meets the criteria:
–Beautiful interior and esthetics. This is not a rundown looking practice at all, you’ll see photos in the interview content. A misconception is that low cost start-ups are dumpy and ‘look cheap.’
–Upscale area. This practice is not located in some dumpy area. Scottsdale is a highly sought after area. A misconception is that low cost start-ups can only be done in rural areas.
And this was accomplished for right about $50,000 in total.
Most dentists are spending $500,000 to a $1,000,000 to open their startup practices.
Opening and operating a dental practice with the ‘lean approach’ that I often write and teach about really opens the door of possibility and greatly reduces the stress of a dental start-up owner. How do you think Dr. Anderson felt in the morning in terms of stress levels only $50,000 bucks in the hole vs the dentist who spent $600,000 to get his doors open. The dentist who spent $600,000 has a huge hole to dig themselves out of and will probably take a decade or more to do so.
Dr. Anderson can make a great living even if he decides to do prophies himself all day long…..and sometimes that is exactly what he does.
Enjoy the interview!
