Tour of the Office
As promised, here is a tour of my office. Built from scratch. Designed from scratch. In my very first post, you can look back to see some of the ‘Before’ pictures. Quite a journey. The place was so bare-bones there weren’t even stairs to go up to the second floor, we had to build those too. There was just a drop down ladder with a string to climb up to the 2nd level which was previously used for storage exclusively.
I believe my design optimized the space pretty much as well as it could have been done, for nearly as affordably as could have been done. Was able to squeeze 4-ops into 1,500 sq feet. If I could go back in time, I know I could and make a few things better and even more efficient.
All of my costs for the start-up, not including the cost of buying the real estate, came to right around $85k. That $85k does include my costs to professionals (lawyers, electricians, Unlock the PPO negotiations etc). According to Bank of America, the average dentist spends ~$400,000 on their start-up – not including the cost of the real estate.
I know dentists who have spend between $1,000,000 and up to $2,000,000 to get a dental practice open. I on the other hand, like having a practice note that I don’t have to worry about paying each month. My practice note is a negligible cost – which allows me to practice dentistry and run my business the way I want to.
Looking back and watching the video now, I’m already looking back at things I forgot to mention in the tour, these things will come later at some point.
